Mr Ben Priest

Meet Your Head of Year

My name is Mr Hynes and I’m excited to be your Head of Year for 2026 and beyond!

Starting high school is a big step, but I’ll be here to guide and support you. Over the next six years you’ll grow, learn and flourish. You’ll enter high school as children and leave as young adults.

A Bit About Me

I’ve been teaching at BCC since the beginning of 2024, but I went to school here myself from 1988 to 1992! Before that, I was a student at Our Lady of Lourdes in Dardanup. In the past two years, I’ve taught Music, Maths, and Homeroom in addition to working in some temporary leadership roles.

Why I Love BCC

BCC is a great place to be yourself. No matter what your passions are there’s a space here for you to shine and grow.

Fun Fact About Me

A fun fact about me is that I love playing the piano and studied music at WAAPA.

I’m looking forward to meeting you all on Orientation Day and will be here to help you to get to know Bunbury Catholic College!

Mr Luke Hynes

WHAT TO EXPECT

On the day, students will have the opportunity to discover what makes secondary school different from primary school.

Students will –

  • Meet teachers and fellow classmates
  • Explore subject areas and facilities
  • Learn how the daily timetable works
  • Take part in classes and team-building activities
  • Begin to understand what it means to be part of the BCC community

It is all about creating familiarity, easing nerves, forming new friendships, and helping students feel excited and ready for Day 1, Term 1.

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING ON THE DAY

What to Wear:

  • Students should wear their current primary school sports uniform

  • A hat (remember: no hat, no play!)

  • Enclosed sports shoes

What to Bring:

  • A water bottle

  • Morning recess

  • Lunch (if not pre-ordered from the cafeteria)

Students will not be able to purchase food from the cafeteria on the day. If you have not pre-ordered lunch for your child, they will need to bring their own lunch from home.

DROP OFF

Drop Off

Students should arrive by 8.30am in time for an 8.45am start.

To help the morning run smoothly, we ask families to follow a ‘kiss and drop’ approach.

Please enter the College via Rodsted Street, follow the access road to the left, and drop your child off in the designated drop-off zone – staying in your car while your child exits safely. Exit via Petherick Street. For everyone’s safety, please do not park in this area. Staff and Student Leaders will be on hand to guide your child from there.

All students must be dropped off and collected from the designated zones.

PICK UP

Pick Up

To ensure minimal disruption to our regular school finishing time, students can be collected from 2.30pm and must be picked up before 3.00pm (even if you have an older student currently at the school).

A safe pick-up zone will be set up on the Hockey Oval, at the corner of Flynn and Rodsted Streets – look out for the sign!

On arrival, follow the guidance of staff. Do not park in this area—remain in your car, and our staff and Student Leaders will assist your child in making their way to you.

Please do not make alternative arrangements to meet your child at another location. All students must be collected as outlined above.

If someone other than a parent is collecting your child, please provide their name and contact details ahead of time to geraldine.bowman@cewa.edu.au.

To help make pick up smooth and safe, please place a large sign with your child’s first name and surname (and any other child you may be collecting) on your dashboard so staff can quickly call them out to meet you.

TRAVEL BY BUS

Traveling by Bus

We ask that students not travel by bus on Orientation Day. However, if this is your only option, please confirm arrangements directly with your bus service   provider ahead of time, and advise the Registrar so we can ensure that a staff member is available to meet them.
